At Guildford Rowing Club we cater for a broad range of capabilities. The Women's side of the rowing club is split into three main groups: the Senior squad; the Novice squad and the Beginners. This allows you to get to know people with a similar level of rowing experience, both sculling and sweep oar. We have a friendly, sociable atmosphere within the club. Crews made up of members of the Senior squad compete most weekends during the summer and at a various Head races during the winter months. The are often trips to Walton on Thames and Dorney Lake for long distance training. The Novice Squad builds on the experience gained from sculling as a Beginner and allows them to develop as rowers. As a Beginner you will be taught everything you need to know about sculling at your own pace. This allows you to gain confidence in the boat and get a greater feel for what is going on. (It is easier to learn to scull first and then learn to row than the other way round.)

During the summer, crews are often out from 6pm onwards. With club nights in the bar on Wednesday and Thursday when you can meet other members of the club. During the winter, land training takes over with nights set aside for the different squads.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are the time when most of the experienced and racing crews are out on the water. It is not all early mornings but we can do them if you really want!

Sundays have traditionally been the territory of the Beginner and Novice rower/sculler. We normally have both the Juniors and most of the Beginners down at this time. (The Juniors from 9am and Beginners from 10:30am.) Most of our qualified coaches are around to give you expert tuition in a range of boats.

For those keen to get fit or maintain your fitness there Tuesday evening circuit training held in collaboration with Surrey University and Thursday evening circuits on the field behind the club.

To help you decide whether Rowing is the sport for you we offer a trial membership. Please see the Beginners home page for the start date of the next beginners' course.

We do ask that you bring down a spare set of clothes and a towel, can swim 100m in light clothing and tell us of any medical conditions before we let you out on the water.
