Bedford Head – 14th October 2007

Guildford Rowing Club’s senior women return from bedford victorious

On Sunday GRC competed in the Autumn Small Boats Head at Bedford. The crews from GRC spanned from juniors doing their first long distance race to members of both senior squads and veterans used to racing. The venue also saw the Ambercat Trophy being competed for by both male and female scullers from the club.

Most members of the different squads double up on races and some were seen going out for a third time in a boat as the day progressed.

There were several wins for the senior women at WS2, WS4 and WN in the coxed fours competition. Jackie and Kate also won in the WS4 double scull fbuilding on their success in Pairs Head last weekend where they came 6th in a field of 24. Pete Hopkins won in the Vet D single sculls.

Nick Mills won the Ambercat trophy for the men with Laura Bartlett winning for a second year in a row for the women. (Every member of the Women’s Squad that competed came home with a pot of some sort including the coaches.)

Close on Nick’s heels in the Ambercat trophy were Glyn Groom (+0:04) John Wills (+0:06) and Pete Hopkins (+0:16).
Kate Lucas was only 5 seconds off Laura B’s pace with Jackie Warrington 5 seconds behind Kate.

Congratulations also go to Charterhouse School whole won the Junior Coxed fours repeating their win from last year.
