GRC Oarsome Xtra Success

GRC applied under the terms above for a grant and applied for Clubmark status at the same time.  The Clubmark accreditation process is still going on – as at January 2007 – but the Oarsome Xtra application was successful and the Club was awarded a grant of just over £14,000.  Together with another £3,000 from the Club and £800 from the Borough Council this money has purchased:

  • 2 Swift coxed quadruple sculls
  • 1 Swift double scull
  • 8 pairs of Croker sculling blades
  • 2 Concept 2 ergometers

The ergometers have been positioned at George Abbott school in Merrow, Guildford where a thriving indoor rowing club has now started under the GRC Captain.  The other equipment is arriving and will soon be seen on the river.

The process has been fairly tortuous but worthwhile.  The GRC Junior Squad is recognised by the ARA as an example of best practice in junior rowing and quoted as an example to clubs across the country.
