Guildford Senior Men’s squad is currently formed of three distinct groups, although new members are welcomed at all levels.

A beginner’s course is run separately from the Senior squad, from where it is hoped that new members can progress through the ranks.

We aim to place new club members with others of a similar level of rowing experience, both in sculling and sweep oar.  At the top end, competition for places is encouraged to ensure that we develop the most competitive crews possible.  Most of our racing is done in 4+ events.

We have a friendly, sociable atmosphere within the club and squad members at all levels are encouraged to compete regularly. During the winter we would look to compete at both the 4’s and 8’s Head in addition to a full regatta calendar. As a competitive club we are keen to ensure that all squad members progress throughout the season to achieve their respective goals.

1st 4+ training takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7.30am and is followed by land based work.  Regular sessions (in addition to our water training) are expected of all 1st 4+ athletes at least 5 times per week. In summer months these are replaced with more frequent water sessions.

Coaching will be provided where possible for the Novice and Development squads and, although extensive land-based training is not required of these groups, it is actively encouraged. Club circuit training is held in collaboration with Surrey University on Tuesdays and an additional session is held on a Thursday evening on the field behind the club.  Other training sessions are arranged by individual crews themselves and as required.

To help you decide whether rowing at GRC is the sport for you we offer a trial membership. Please see the Beginners home page for the start date of the next beginners' course.  If you are an experienced senior rower, please fill in the online contact form by clicking here.
